“What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language”
– Miuccia Prada
I have always agreed with people like Miuccia Prada claiming that fashion and style is a form of self expression. Since this blog is focused on this subject it is obvious that I am a fashion enthusiast and shopping addict. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I am sometimes a little embarrassed about this part of my personality. When people ask me what I do in my free time and I respond with ‘shopping’ or ‘fashion’ (among other things of course) I get the feeling that I am immediately put in a certain stereotype. ‘Oh, she is that type of girl. Superficial, conceited, not the smartest and probably has too much time on her hand’. However, these people don’t seem to understand that there is more about clothes than looking pretty and presentable. I myself feel like it wasn’t until recently that I fully grasped the meaning behind this idea. Let’s put it this way, I am currently in a phase in my life where things are not easy. I have days that go well. I have days that go not so well. On those kind of occasions I found myself gravitating more towards the dark side of my closet matching my mood. I started wearing my boots and leather jacket again and bought myself some black shades. Wearing looks like the one you’re about to see makes me feel strong, powerful and inapproachable. It tells everyone right away that I am not in the mood to be messed around with and you better not even try to.
Just by my outfit choice I was able to convey and express myself without saying a single word. And this is what Miss Prada is talking about. Fashion is like body language, you communicate with your environment even if you don’t want to. This time I decided to go back to black, the next outfit is going to be different, same goes for the one after that and so on. I just love experimenting with different styles, ways to represent my personality and looking for interesting locations to match my outfits. By the way, speaking of future fashion posts I have multiple cool ideas in my mind (and clothes that I obviously NEED to buy) but the upcoming two weeks are going to be very stressful since I will have to study for my oral exam. Good news is after that is done I will finally have the time to be posting more frequently and working on a ton of stuff to get ‘From A to Z’ going. As always I would really appreciate you commenting, liking and following -especially because I have a post in progress that is very special to me.
