Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

About two weeks ago I saw a fashion video from Tess Christine on Youtube where she recreated celebrity looks. For one outfit she wore some big glasses, something I normally would stay away from personally. I just never thought that glasses suited my face. But that pair really intrigued me for some reason and I found myself wondering whether or not I could pull it off too. So I decided to order a similar (and much cheaper alternative) on Asos since I figured I could still send the glasses back if I didn’t like them. Honestly, after receiving them in the mail and trying them on I am still not sure what I should think about this look on me. I feel like wearing them changes my whole appearance and I haven’t decided yet if it’s for the good or for the bad. If it makes me look edgy and cool or more like an awkward version of a female Harry Potter. Nevertheless, I decided to keep the glasses anyway just to try something new.  The first day I wore them out I must have felt very adventurous not only because of the glasses but also because of the pink lipstick I put on as well. Wearing bright lip colors is something I rarely happen to do. I usually stick to the same, safe routine when it comes to make up and drawing attention to my in my opinion weirdly shaped lips is not part of it. Lastly, I parted my hair on the other side and basically sprayed half a bottle of hairspray in it, scrunched it a thousand times to give it a wilder appearance and I finally left the house looking like me not looking like me.

So am I going to wear this every single day? Probably not. That’s just not me. But for the days where I feel like trying something different and feel confident enough to change things up I will maybe dig out these glasses and even a crazy lip. Especially since I don’t have classes anymore I find myself being more creative and daring when it comes to fashion and my style. I suppose the key to stepping out of your comfort zone is to take small steps. You don’t have to go all out at once. I for my part wearing this look stayed on the safer side clothes wise and just wore some jeans and a plain tee. I know it seems like I make a lot of fuss about an accessory and some colored make up. But I get the feeling that so many people are too hesitant to experiment or to take risks because they are afraid of failure or of what other people might think. Maybe this post is just meant to be some sort of inspiration for you to do things you have always wanted to but always have been too shy, insecure, anxious,… to actually go for it. This could be something ‘irrelevant’ like wearing clothing piece or as ‘important’ as an application for your dream job. Eventually, you’ll only know if you like something after you’ve tried it. With that you gain two things: more knowledge about who you want to be as a person and more confidence. For my part, I have realized that I will probably stick to my current routine and style. However, fashion and basically life  is supposed to be fun. So maybe I’ll get in the mood to bring out the geeky-female-harry-potter look on the one or other other occasion again. 😉
